Gerringong Sporting Personalities
David Mayo
David commenced playing hockey as a 6 year old and tasted his first major
success as a member of the NSW under 15 Touring Team.
Playing 196 first grade games for Albion Park, he was a member of six 1st
Grade Premiership winning teams between 1981 and 1990 and later playing with
Eastern Campbelltown added a further two Premierships to his tally in 1994/5.
Representing NSW in 1986 he was a member of the winning team of the Oceania
Hockey Tournament held in Auckland, N.Z. that year.
In 1985 he was named Illawarra Hockey 1st Grade "Player of the Year". He was
also named Albion Park RSL "Sportsman of the Year" 1985/6. In 1987 he received
the Shellharbour Municipality, Australia Day Award for "Achievement in Sport".
David now resides in Gerringong with his family and still retains an active
interest in hockey as Coach for the Gerringong Women's Hockey Club.
